Premikula Roju  Plot Summary

The story revolves around Raja, hailing from an impoverished and uneducated family in Tamil Nadu. In his region, education is often deemed a luxury for the affluent, and poverty-stricken boys like Raja are compelled to work from a tender age to support their families. Raja’s family’s struggle for survival is compounded by his alcoholic father who squanders a significant portion of their income on alcohol. Against this backdrop, Raja’s mother fervently urges his father to allow Raja to complete his high school education without engaging in additional labour.

Raja’s journey takes a pivotal turn when his mother implores him to embark on a new life in Mumbai. He heeds her plea and sets off to Mumbai, where he aspires to pass the undergraduate entrance exam for the prestigious Ramachandra Institute of Management Studies—a top-tier business school in India.

The film begins on New Year’s Day in 1999 at a train station, where Raja converses with a manager named Manivannan. This interaction triggers a flashback to three years prior when Raja arrived in Mumbai with the aspiration of gaining admission to the esteemed Ramachandra College of Management. Despite securing the 41st rank in the admission tests for a 40-member class, Raja secures a place in the MBA program due to a favour from the college chairman, Dr. Ramachandra. Unbeknownst to Raja, his admission is facilitated by Dr. Ramachandra, who recognized Raja’s potential and his history of struggling for education. Dr. Ramachandra, a self-made man who rose from a poor background, was driven by the tragic loss of his sister and the adversity he faced.

Amid Raja’s pursuit of education, he connects with Roja through the internet. A virtual romance blossoms between them, and they exchange photos via email. An unexpected encounter reveals that they are both studying in the same college despite claiming to be in different countries. As their feelings for each other deepen, a series of misunderstandings ensue, preventing them from openly expressing their emotions.

Guided by Dr. Ramachandra, Raja attempts various approaches to convey his affection to Roja. However, circumstances, accidents, and miscommunication complicate their relationship. With Dr. Ramachandra’s assistance, the two navigate these challenges, eventually realizing the depth of their feelings for each other. Just as they begin to acknowledge their love, a revelation disrupts their happiness—Roja is the daughter of Dr. Ramachandra, and plans for her arranged marriage are underway.

Raja faces a dilemma as he respects Dr. Ramachandra and doesn’t want to hurt him. He sends an email to Roja, expressing his inability to reciprocate her feelings. Heartbroken, Roja consents to an arranged marriage with Rajesh Gupta, a wealthy individual with an MBA from the United States. Raja attends the wedding but leaves abruptly, returning to his hometown.

Coincidentally, Dr. Ramachandra overhears Raja’s conversation with his friends and realizes Raja’s love for his daughter. He rushes to stop the wedding and implores Raja to confess his feelings to Roja. A dramatic turn of events transpires as Raja rescues Roja from a suicide attempt, leading to a last-minute halt to the wedding. Raja and Roja are united in marriage on Valentine’s Day, marking the culmination of their love story.
